Jacqueline "Kira" Hamilton
I've been drawing for as long as I can remember. One of my first art books was a "how to draw horses" workbook. I've had lots of practice since then; even now I often think best with a pen in my hand, whether I'm actually drawing anything or not.
I enjoy creating art in a variety of media. Sculpture appeals to me; there's considerable joy to be had in taking a nondescript lump of clay and turning it into something beautiful. I also love color, and enjoy doing small oil paintings to satisfy my need to create with color.
I tend to work in miniature scale; I get great satisfaction out of artwork that I can hold in my hand. Part of this comes from the fact that I'm nearsighted; larger art viewed from a distance often just seems like a blob of form and color, whereas I'm able to completely admire and appreciate a small piece of art.
Much of my work depicts the horse, which I think is the most beautiful creature on this Earth. Their beauty is more than physical, though; for centuries horses have lent us their strength, their loyalty, and their unflagging spirits. I certainly believe that, more than any other animal, the horse has transformed human history... and transformed us.
I also very much love the sun, the ocean, the wind, and nature, so my artistic creations often reflect these passions.
In this increasingly media-driven, ad-ridden, noisy world, I think it's important for people to get back in touch with art. Good art brings joy to the soul, and I hope my art does that for you.
