I'm an independent web developer; I've been doing web design and programming since 1995. Here's a look at some of my work.

AstroArch Consulting (2007)
Redesign of the AstroArch website.
|
 |
Data-Net (2007)
Redesign of the Data-Net website.

 |
Dot-o-mator (2007)
My latest domain-naming tool, I got the idea for this when I was trying to come up with a name for a new web business. It evolved from the Web 2.0 name generator, but Dot-o-mator lets you search a lot of name combinations at once.
|
 |
Web 2.0 Name Generator (2006)
Some simple CSS, JavaScript and dynamic HTML went into this project, which I created partly out of amusement at some of the silly Web 2.0 company names I've seen.

Barry Schlueter (2006)
A site for hibiscus hybridizer Barry Schlueter. Several photo galleries showcase Barry's award-winning flowers.
|
 |
Slashdot Redesign Contest (2006)
I submitted this entry for the Slashdot Redesign
Contest. Didn't win, but I'm happy with how it turned out, and I learned a few things in the process...

UltraCorps (2005)
UltraCorps is a browser-based space conquest game. I developed the game from scratch in OO Perl, modperl, Mason, and Javascript/DHTML. I also created the new starry-blue design of the UltraCorps website.

 |
Warehouse 23 (2005)
This was a long-overdue facelift for SJ Games' e-commerce site. I created the design and graphics in Photoshop, and created the HTML layout and CSS stylesheet for the new design.
|
 |
MyRecipeBook (2005)
A personal project of mine, this site allows users to save, share and print their recipes. Developed in Perl, Mason and MySQL.
|
 |
Data-Net (2005)
This was a redesign of an existing website. Data-Net sells barcode scanning/printing equipment and data collection hardware and software, but their previous homepage didn't even have the word "barcode" (or "bar code") on it anywhere. The revised design is optimized for better search engine ranking, and makes it instantly clear what the company does. I also applied CSS stylesheets to the site, which reduced the size of all of the pages by more than half.

 |
CGI101.COM (2005)
I revised the CGI101 home page in February 2005. The new design uses
CSS and Javascript. The entire page is dynamic, so that when you mouse-over
the navigation buttons, the relevant content appears in the main content
window.

 |
e23 (2005)
e23 is the new digital publishing site for Steve Jackson Games. I created the graphic design for this site myself. I also did all of the programming, which is done using Perl, Mason, and mod_perl, with a MySQL database back-end.

 |
Lifethoughts (2004)
I created this site for my dad. The front page features rotating images from NASA, and a rotating quote from a set of my dad's favorite quotes. He's also published an e-book of "life thoughts", which is available in pdf format on the site. He also regularly posts new photos to his photo gallery, which uses the same software I wrote for my tourist site (see below).
|
 |
Occasional Tourist (2004)
This online photo gallery showcases travel photos I've taken over the years. It uses CGI and mod_perl to serve the album and photo pages, and all of the data about each photo (title, description, image path, etc.) is saved in a MySQL database. A back-end browser-based application allows me to create new albums and add/edit photos easily.
|
 |
Heynow Software (2004)
I revised the Heynow.com site to echo the colors used by Savitar, their
Mac MUD client. The site also features some really nice Javascript rollover
images.
I also designed this Mac OS X icon for Savitar:

 |
Steve Jackson Games (2004)
I designed the new homepage design for Steve Jackson Games. Steve wanted a
golden Egyptian-style theme for the new site. The homepage uses Mason to
include some dynamic content (the Daily Illuminator, Warehouse 23 news,
message from the Illuminati, and counters are all generated through Mason/Perl).
|
 |
WebTemplates (2001)
WebTemplates is a collection of web page templates that allows users to build their own web pages right from their browser. About 20 complete templates are available, and the site generates all of the HTML and Javascript coding for the users' pages. This site used to be a stand-alone subscription service, but is now a feature only for CGI101.COM customers.

Journal of the
Traveller's Aid Society (2000)
JTAS is a webzine I created during my tenure as webmaster at
Steve Jackson Games.
It's biweekly and is based on the Traveller roleplaying
system, which is a futuristic space-based theme. I really enjoyed
the design because I'm good at creating space art, and I think
this design turned out really well.

Harpers Tale (1997)
HT is an online (text-only) roleplaying game based on the Dragonriders of Pern novels. The game was centered around Ista Island for a long time, so I made a splash graphic showing a wing of dragons flying over the tropical coastline. The web page has links that directly access help files and other information on the MOO; it also provides a Java and Flash client so players can login from their web browser. I developed the Flash client myself.
The sub-pages are all adorned by this smaller firelizard logo that I created:
